For this week’s Thursday / Sunday (August 15/18) services at Lord and Savior Lutheran in Crystal Lake, Pastor David Carlovsky will base his message on the psalm that we'll be singing that day: Psalm 78. This is a psalm that talks about telling the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord. As young people begin heading back to school, the service will discuss the importance of Christian education (and the importance for adults to provide good examples to their children and grandchildren. The sermon will address parents and grandparents about passing down a legacy of faith. Thus, the sermon theme is taken directly Psalm 78: "WE WILL TELL THE NEXT GENERATION THE PRAISEWORTHY DEEDS OF THE LORD!” (Psalm 78:1-8)
The following Thursday/Sunday (August 22/25), Pastor Carlovsky will be preaching on the epistle lesson (Colossians 3:1-11). In this section the apostle Paul presents practical advice for day-to-day living for Christians. Our key verse for the message is this: "Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things" (Colossians 3:2). Our only hope is in Christ... so we need to focus our lives on Him. "Without Christ, life is a hopeless end. With Christ, it is an endless hope.” The sermon theme will be "SET YOUR HEART ON THINGS ABOVE!"
