Disciples follow Jesus First!

Luke9-51to62.jpg

Lord & Savior Ev. Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake is worshiping on its summer schedule: services at 7:00pm on Thursday evenings and 9:00am on Sunday mornings. This week (Thursday/Sunday (July 18/21), Pastor David Carlovsky will again preach from the Gospel lesson, still in Luke (9:51-62). That week we'll be reminded that — like the original twelve — we are Jesus' disciples. Just as Jesus called those disciples, He's called us to be His disciples through baptism. Following Jesus first means loyalty to our heavenly Father, not to family and friends. Jesus' words sounds harsh... unloving… what could be more important than family and friends? The best situation is when we follow Christ together, gathering together for worship around the Word... and encouraging each other to keep our hand to the plow... keeping our gaze fixed on the cross and the empty tomb! The sermon theme will be: "DISCIPLES FOLLOW JESUS FIRST!” ( I. Away from the world! II. To serve in the kingdom!)

The following week (July 25th & 28th) the two services will be different. On Thursday, July 25th, the service will use the lessons from that week’s Vacation Bible School. Pastor Carlovsky will interact with the children and review what they've learned from their Bible stories of the week. The children will sing the songs they've learned, pray together, and recite the Bible passages that they've focused on. The VBS week's theme is "Miraculous Mission.” (Vacation Bible School will be held from Monday the 22nd through the 25th; there is no cost.)

On Sunday, July 28th, Pastor Carlovsky will be preaching on the Epistle lesson (Galatians 6:1-10, 14-16). The verse that will be elevated to most important for the sermon is this: "Carry each other's burdens..." (Galatians 6:2). So the sermon will be about spiritually watching out for others, even as we daily watch ourselves. The sermon theme will be:"CARRY EACH OTHER'S BURDENS!"

Visitors are always welcome at Lord & Savior. The congregation’s regular services are recorded each week and appear on Cable TV's public access channel in the Crystal Lake/ McHenry/ Woodstock area -- every Monday at 4:00pm.
