John 20:19-31 - Easter’s Surprise: “Peace!”
For April 28th, the Sunday after Easter, at Lord & Savior Lutheran in Crystal Lake, Pastor David Carlovsky will preach on the classic Gospel lesson in John 20:19-31, where the Bible tells that on the evening of the first Easter, the disciples were locked away for "fear of the Jews." But the disciples may have also been afraid of something else — something even worse. How could Jesus be the "resurrection and the life" if He were dead? But then Jesus appeared to them! And He spoke most comforting, most surprising, gracious words to them: "Shalom alekem." "Peace be with you." Fear gave way to joy! Pastor Carlovsky’s message will focus on "peace." Jesus could have been angry about their doubting and denying and running away and more... Rather He surprised them and said, "Peace…” The sermon theme will be: EASTER'S SURPRISE: "PEACE!"
John 20:24-31 - Does Christianity Demand Blind Faith?
The following Sunday, the congregation will welcome a guest speaker, retired Pastor Mark Anderson. He will preach on John 20:24-31, the familiar story of “doubting” Thomas.
His sermon theme will be “Does Christianity Demand Blind Faith?”
1. Not true in the case of Thomas
2. Not expected of us.
