Luke 9 - See the Glory of the Lord

Luke 9:28-36 - See the Glory of the Lord!

This coming Sunday, March 3rd, is Transfiguration Sunday. At Lord and Savior Ev. Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake, Pastor David Carlovsky will be preaching on the Gospel lesson for that Sunday (Luke 9:28-36), which is Luke's account of the Transfiguration. In spirit we will stand on the Mount of Transfiguration.  Some interesting things happened on the top of mountains in the Bible.  On Mt. Moriah the Lord told Abraham to sacrifice Isaac.  On Mt. Carmel Elijah had his famous showdown with the prophets of Baal.  On Mt. Ararat the ark came to rest.  On Mt. Sinai Moses was given the Ten Commandments.  On Mt. Calvary Jesus died for our sins.  So it doesn't surprise us when Jesus decided to reveal His glory on a mountain!

In the sermon we will journey up the mountain with the three disciples and through the eyes of faith we will... "SEE THE GLORY OF THE LORD!"

   I. In a transfiguration

  II. In a heavenly conversation

III. In the lives of His disciples

Matthew 26:35-41 - Watch and Pray!

The following Wednesday, March 6th, is Ash Wednesday. Lord and Savior will again be offering Lenten Vespers services each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm. Our theme for this year's Lenten season is "Three Words of Truth."  Each text/theme will highlight three words from Christ's Passion.  On Ash Wednesday, the theme will be “ Watch and Pray!.” The sermon will be based on Matthew 26:35-41. The school children will also be singing “A Purple Robe" that evening, and the PTO will be serving a Lenten supper before the service, starting at about 6:15pm.

Luke 4:1-13 - The Sword of the Spirit is Enough

On Sunday, March 10th, Pastor Carlovsky will preach on the Gospel lesson: Luke 4:1-13, which is Luke's account of Jesus being tempted by the devil. The sermon will stress that our God has given us the Word of God--which is the Sword of the Spirit — to use when the devil attacks.  The sermon will have the simple theme:  "THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT IS ENOUGH!"

John 18:3-9 - I am He!

For the second Lenten Vespers service on March 13, Pastor Andrew Bauer of New Life, Lake Zurich, will be the guest preacher. The "three words" that Wednesday will be: "I AM HE!” (John 18:3-9)  The men of the congregation are serving the Lenten supper that evening.
