1 Samuel 16:1-13 - “God Anoints His Chosen One!”
This coming Sunday, January 13th, is when the church often recognizes the “Baptism of our Lord.” The Gospel lesson is that story, as found in Luke 3:15-17,21,22. Pastor David Carlovsky’s sermon will be based on the Old Testament lesson, the story of the shepherd boy, David, being anointed by Samuel as the next king. We will be reminded how baptism is something like that anointing... being chosen or set apart by our heavenly Father. And we'll be reminded that at Jesus' baptism He was "anointed" as the Messiah to be our Savior. His sermon theme will use the text found in 1 Samuel 16:1-13, and will be titled "GOD ANOINTS HIS CHOSEN ONE!”
John 2:1-11 - “Jesus Revealed His Glory!”
The following Sunday, January 20th continues the season of Epiphany, with the story of Jesus’ first recorded miracle as found in John 2:1-11. Changing water into wine at the wedding in Cana “revealed his glory.” It is interesting that He revealed His glory in an ordinary town, to an ordinary couple, in the midst of an ordinary celebration. In such subtle, simply, ordinary ways He reveals Himself as our almighty God!
The sermon theme will echo this idea: "JESUS REVEALED HIS GLORY!”
I. He's our Friend!
II. He's our Provider!
III. He's our Savior!
